Tristate residents woke up to more power outages Thursday after snow and sleet in the form of a Nor'easter blanketed the region and knocked down power lines.
The Fox 5 weather team said the storm brought primarily rain early on and then changed over to snow as colder air was pulled into the system.
The Nor'easter added insult to injury for the thousands of people trying to recovery from superstorm Sandy more than one week ago.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency closed ten disaster center sites across the tristate on Wednesday ahead of the storm.
A tent in the Rockaways belonging to FEMA used for interviews with displaced residents was knocked down by the storm, said FEMA representatives.
The storm set recovery effort in New Jersey was set back by about one day, according to Gov. Chris Christie.
"It could have been a lot worse. The snow was helpful. It wasn't rain so it helped on the flooding side," added Christie during a media briefing Thursday.
The Nor'easter moved away from New York and New Jersey and made its way into New England on Thursday morning.
Up to six inches of snow accumulated in much of the area with higher numbers in northeast New Jersey and portions of the lower Hudson Valley.
Connecticut was hit harder with approximately 8 -12 inches of snow in some areas.
Eastern Long Island saw primarily rain into Thursday morning.
Newark Liberty, JFK and LaGuardia airports canceled all or most flights at noon on Wednesday through early Thursday.
