The Christie administration announced in order to prevent a fuel shortage and ease the problem of long wait times and lines at gas stations, the governor will sign Executive Order 108, declaring a limited state of energy emergency with regard to the supply of motor fuel and implementing odd-even rationing for gasoline purchases in 12 New Jersey counties.
Saturday was the first day of odd even gas rationing in North Jersey. Starting at noon, if the last number on your license plate was odd you could fill up because nov3 rd is an odd numbered day.
But not everybody got the message.
"People are here with even numbers!! It's not fair I've been waiting here all day," said one frustrated gas customer.
Lines grew from gas stations where pumps were not even flowing. Just the rumor that a shipment was imminent caused a run on the station.
Some people have been here for up to 12 hours.
"This is the closest to my house and once you get on line, you hate to get off -- so you just wait," said another gas customer.
State leaders announced free mobile fuel trucks were on the way from the US Department of Defense to be set up at Armories in New York and New Jersey. But the Federal Government then asked the public to stay away from the free fuel until emergency responders has fueled up.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo assured residents that of 28 million of gallons of Petroleum that were coming in shipments from the ports, now that the CG has opened the harbor.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie also spoke of more gasoline becoming available in coming days but said until power is restored many gas station will remain closed.
Politicians promising more supplies on the way but customers seem to be waiting in vain.
