ANNAPOLIS, Md. -

Police are identifying a contractor who was killed by a falling tree in Annapolis while removing debris from Superstorm Sandy.

Anne Arundel County police said Thursday that family members identified the man as 50-year-old Santiago Lopez of Annapolis. He was originally from Mexico.

Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy tells The Baltimore Sun that Lopez was part of a crew from W.D. Olsen Tree Care working to remove fallen trees in a waterfront community near the Bay Bridge.

The Maryland Occupational Safety and Health agency is investigating the accident.
