Bay-Side Fortescue Didn’t Escape Sandy’s Wrath

Posted: Updated:
FORTESCUE, N.J. -

We're showing a lot of scenes from the Jersey Shore, but the Delaware Bay got its share of damage as well.

If you went straight east from Fortescue, on the opposite side of New Jersey is the Wildwoods. Here, the residents say it wasn't the wind so much as the water that caused the most damage, leaving behind what looks like tornado damage.

FOX's Jennifer Davis was in Fortescue, N.J., for a live report on Wednesday morning.

Residents say water came in during the surge and just tore through the bulkhead and destroyed piers, and decks.

Then, the sheer force of the water was so immense that it destroyed a house and knocked the one behind it off of its foundation.

Town officials had asked people to evacuate. Eventually, fire crews had to come through, and they needed to use front loaders to get through because there were about 4 feet of water on the ground.
