(WJBK) - Sandy's final stats are in and they're impressive.

The Category 1 hurricane turned superstorm poured as many as 15 inches of rain in parts of Maryland; packed 94 mph wind gusts in New York state; dumped over two feet of snow in parts West Virginia and Maryland; and stirred up nearly 40-foot waves in the Atlantic Ocean, according to Accuweather.

Despite the storm's size and scope of damage, Accuweather says Sandy is not the strongest hurricane to make its way up the east coast. In 1977, Hurricane Gladys moved north of Cape Hatteras, N.C. as a Category 4 hurricane with a record low barometric pressure of 27.73 inches. It did, however, remain off the U.S. coast.

Reports say Sandy knocked out power to more than 7.5 million people, while storm surges pushed nearly 13 feet above normal in parts of New York.
