ALEXANDRIA, Va. -
Fairfax County has lifted evacuation orders that had been in place for more than 150 residents in the flood-prone Huntington neighborhood near Cameron Run.
The neighborhood has experienced severe flooding after storms several times in recent years, but rains from Hurricane Sandy did not cause the flooding that had been feared.
As it turned out, most residents did not evacuate anyway, even though the evacuation order was considered mandatory. County spokeswoman Merni Fitzgerald said that only 60 of the 154 residents affected by the order actually evacuated.
County voters are considering a $30 million bond referendum on the ballot in November to implement flood-protection measures for the neighborhood.
