MYFOXNY.COM -

A girl was found dead under storm debris and the National Guard has been called to Staten Island to help in rescue operations according to police radio broadcasts.

FDNY crews found Angela Dresch, 13, in the debris of a Tottenville home.  The NYPD says the girl's body was found about 1 a.m. at 455 Manhattan St.

Members of the national Guard were set to meet with FDNY officials at Midland Ave., near Egbert Intermediate School on Tuesday morning to organize a response, according to silive.com.

There were reports of people trapped in homes, some in attics, in coastal communities.  Many people who were in mandatory evacuation zones decided to stay, and were trapped by floodwaters.

There were also unconfirmed reports of looting in parts of the borough.

Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro had said he worried about the lack of people responding to Hurricane Sandy evacuation orders.

A giant tanker ship ended up partially on the shore of Staten Island in the storm surge.  168-foot-long water tanker remained grounded on Front Street as the waters receded.

The John B. Caddell weighs 712 tons.  It was built in 1941.
