REISTERSTOWN, Md. -
The state health department says a woman was killed in a Montgomery County crash related to the effects of Hurricane Sandy, but county police say the accident may have other causes.
Health Secretary Joshua Sharfstein says the medical examiner confirms the death Monday is storm-related. Sharfstein says the woman was killed when a car skidded on a wet road.
But Cpl. Paul Starks says that while the weather may have caused the accident, police haven't made a determination or ruled out other factors. He says it was raining in Germantown when the crash occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m., and the road was wet.
The accident occurred at Frederick Road and Brink Road. Police say a Nissan driven by 19-year-old Joshua Jose Munoz of Germantown was traveling south on Frederick road. Officers say the Nissan crossed the center line and hit a Jaguar driven by 66-year-old Mai Ai Lam-Phan of Clarksburg.
Lam-Phan was pronounced dead at the scene. Munoz and a passenger, 16-year-old Caleb Emiliano Munoz of Germantown, were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
