Emergency Shelters Open In Your Area

As Hurricane Sandy makes its say towards our area, several counties throughout Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania are opening emergency shelters.

Below, we've put together a list of the latest shelters open in your area. We will continue to add to the list as additional shelters are opened.

NEW JERSEY:

Cape May County:

The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management announced that shelters will be e open Sunday, October 28 beginning at 1 p.m. for residents evacuating from the Barrier Islands and Bayside communities.

Ocean City, Sea Isle City and Strathmere:

Residents will be directed to the Upper Township Middle School, 525 Perry Road in the Petersburg section of Upper Township and to the Upper Township Elementary School, 50 Old Tuckahoe Road in Marmora, New Jersey.

Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, North Wildwood, West Wildwood, Cape May , West Cape May and Cape May Point:

Residents will be sheltered at the Woodbine Developmental Center, 1175 DeHirsch Road, Woodbine, New Jersey.

City Of Camden:

The Camden School District is scheduled to open five schools as emergency shelters at 4 p.m. Sunday:

- Octavius V. Catto Community School: 3100 Westfield Ave.

- Thomas H. Dudley Elementary School: 2250 Berwick St.

- Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC): 1602 Pine St.

- H.B. Wilson Elementary School: 2250 South 8th St.

- Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy: 900 Morgan Blvd.

Camden Mayor Dana Redd will make three city community shelters available, beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday:

- Malandra Hall Community Center: New Jersey and Merrimac Roads

- Isabel Miller Community Center: 8th St. and Carl Miller Blvd.

- North Camden Community Center: 6th and Erie St.

Emergency Homeless Shelters:

- New Life Ministries: 1721 Haddon Ave.

- St. Joe's Church: 29th and Westfield Ave. (Opens at 5 p.m. Monday)

Camden County:

Municipal Shelters open and staffed by community volunteers:

Audobon Park:

- Tippie Toes Daycare: 2C Rd. Audobon Park

Bellmawr:

- Bellmawr Park Fire Department: 12 Essex Ave.

Haddon Township:

- Haddon Township High School: 406 Memorial Ave.

- Paul VI High School: 901 HOpkins Road

- Calvary Baptist: 117 Nicolson Road

- New Jerusalem Temple: 1225 Collings Ave.

Runnemede:

- Harry Williams Building: Black Horse Pike

- Mary Volz School: 505 W. 3rd Ave.

Cumberland County:

- Cumberland County College: 3322 College Dr., Vineland, NJ 08360, 856-691-8600.

- Buckshutem Road School: 550 Buckshutem Rd., Bridgeton, NJ 08302, 856-455-08302

- Cumberland County Technical Education Center (Vo-Tech): 601 County Road 666, Bridgeton, NJ 08302, 856-451-9000. (This is a pet friendly shelter.)

Animal Shelters:

An animal shelter is scheduled to open in Lower Township at noon on Sunday at 409 Breakwater Road, Tomwar Building in the Cape May County Airport Complex.

Call 609-886-1619 for directions.

Animal shelter trailers will be set up at two additional locations in the county.

New Jersey residents in need of shelter are asked to call their local Office of Emergency Management for assistance.

DELAWARE:

Southeast Wilmington:

Residents who do not have shelter plans in place are asked to call the city's Office of Constituent Services at: 302-576-2489. now through 6 p.m. to make arrangements for transportation to a shelter.

PENNSYLVANIA:

Bucks County:

As of 9 a.m. Monday, the following shelters are now open:

- Palisades High School: 35 Church Hill Road, Kitnersville, 18930

- Pennsbury High School East: 705 Hood Boulevard, Fairless Hills, 19030

- Counckil Rock North: 62 Swamp Road, Newtown, 18940

Philadelphia:

The city has set up there shelters for residents who are evacuating their homes due to the storm. the shelters open at 4 p.m. Sunday:

- West Philadelphia High School, 4901 Chestnut Street

- Roxborough High School, 6498 Ridge Avenue

- Samuel Fels High School, 5500 Langdon Street

Montgomery County:

- Pottstown high School: 750 North Washington St., Pottstown, Pa. 19464 - opens Sunday, 7 p.m.

- Cheltenham High School: 500 Rices Mill Road, Wyncote, Pa. 19095 - opens Sunday, 7 p.m.

- Norristown High School: 1900 Eagle Dr., Norristown, Pa. 19403 - opens Sunday, 7 p.m.

Chester County:

- Avon Grove High School: 257 E. State Road, West Grove, Pa. 19390 - opens Sunday, 7 p.m.

- Lionville Middle School: 550 W. Uwchlan Avenue, Exton, Pa. 19341 - opens Sunday, 7 p.m.

Delaware County:

- Showalter Science and Discovery School: 1100 West 10th St., Chester, Pa. 19013 - opens Sunday, 7 p.m.
