A Cobb County gun store owner has raised some eyebrows over a get out the vote raffle at his store. An ad shows the Georgia peach sticker with "I voted" written on it and it encourages people to enter a drawing for a handgun and a rifle.
Adventure Outdoors store owner Jay Wallace says that the contest is legal despite what critics claim.
Although the advertising suggests the contest for anyone who votes, Wallace says it's actually for anyone who enters the drawing. Giveaways for votes are illegal in Georgia.
Wallace says he's given away guns at election time for the past two presidential contests. He says it's a way to entice gun owners to participate in politics.
"So everybody needs to be an informed voter. They need to talk amongst each other and learn and find out whatever they can. And when they do go to the polls, make an informed decision," said Wallace.
Wallace's billboards got the attention of the Secretary of State's office after a state senator complained. The Secretary of State's office says the gun giveaway is legal since it is open to the public regardless of whether someone cast a ballot.
Wallace says even though someone has complained about his contest, he has gotten emails from all over the world in support of it.
