Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies from the Brandon Township substation and Brandon Township Fire Department were dispatched to the 300 block of Hidden Hills Lane for a 4 month old, male infant not breathing. Upon arrival the infant was lying on the living room floor unresponsive.
The caretaker, a 27 year old male and the boyfriend of the infant's mother was the only adult in the home with the infant. Also in the home was the caretaker's four year old daughter who was sleeping at the time of the incident. Deputies on scene observed the infant had head trauma while the infant was receiving CPR by Brandon Township Fire Department.
The infant was transported to Genesys Hospital for treatment and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The Doctor confirmed the infant suffered from severe head trauma. The Oakland County Medical Examiner was contacted and an autopsy was performed this morning with the cause of death being listed as blunt force trauma to the head. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
The suspect was taken to the OCSO Brandon Township substation for further questioning. The suspect was then lodged at the Oakland County Jail. The investigation continues pending review of the case by the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office. In addition, Child Protective Services was notified and the OCSO Forensic Crime Lab processed the crime scene.
The suspect has an extensive criminal history dating back to 2002 when he was a juvenile. In 2003, he was convicted of three counts of Breaking and & Entering with Intent, and Safe Breaking. He was sentenced to 2 to 20 years in prison. He was paroled from the State of Michigan prison system in 2005. He was discharged from parole in 2009.
Once arraigned on any and all charges, the suspect's name and mugshot will be released.
Sheriff Bouchard said "This case and all that involve an adult causing the death of babies are disgusting. If you can't take care of a baby or stand to hear the baby crying, call someone that can, for heaven's sake. There is no cell deep and dark enough for people like this. "
