WASHINGTON -
A storm of heavy rain and wind may knock out electricity to hundreds of thousands of customers in the D.C. region.
Officials at Pepco, the utility that serves D.C. and parts of Maryland, say customers may be without power for days because sustained winds may prevent crews from doing immediate repair work.
Spokeswoman Myra Oppel says that although the storm has been on the radar for days, the fact that it's projected to stick around the area could bring major problems and widespread outages.
She says crews will try to restore power as fast as possible, but that customers need to prepare to be without electricity for days.
She says Pepco is requesting help from crews from elsewhere in the country.
