Shore Towns Preparing For Sandy's Powerful Punch

Posted: Updated:

Hurricane Sandy blasts the Bahamas but prepares to churn toward the East Coast and possibly make landfall here early next week.

Forecasters are nicknaming it "Frankenstorm," saying it's unusual mix of a hurricane and a winter storm

Right now, it's a category-one hurricane with violent winds and torrential rain, something forecasters say we can also expect here.

As the massive storm moves north and heads toward the coast, it's bringing tropical storm-like conditions to Florida on Friday morning.

Officials say the beaches will be battered as Sandy stirs up waves of up to 8 feet. Florida could also have strong wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.

But the brunt of Sandy is expected to hit New Jersey.

People down the shore aren't waiting for what's to come. Officials in Atlantic City are already preparing residents for what's to come.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley has more from A.C. this morning.
