Area medical centers dance it up for breast cancer awareness

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

The Pink Glove Dance Competition started three years ago with a viral video. It featured 200 members of a Portland, Oregon hospital wearing pink gloves and cutting a rug, and it's now become a nationwide contest.

Recently, the lobby of Gwinnett Medical Center was transformed into a dance floor.

"It was like, out of character for most of them. It was hilarious. We enjoyed it," said Registered Nurse Cecelia White.

The dance was videotaped as part of Gwinnett's 2012 entry into a contest for a cause: The Pink Glove Dance Competition. It's the second year for the online contest which challenges health facilities around the country to don pink gloves and dance it up for breast cancer awareness.

"The pink glove dance is just one example of how Gwinnett Medical Center is committed to women's health. You have to have some levity. This really helps the team and the teamwork come together and support a cause," said Cathie Brazell, Director of Women's Services at Gwinnett Medical Center.

At Gwinnett Medical Center about 50 doctors, nurses, and surgeons set the dance floor on fire Gangnam style. The medical professionals tried their best for a fun and worthy cause.

Athens Medical Center also participated in the Pink Glove Dance Competition.

The contest is sponsored by Medline, the company that produces the pink gloves. The winners will receive a total $17,000 to donate to a breast cancer charity of their choice. But the winner is chosen by votes! You can vote online by clicking here!
