Who is Ron Gant?

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

You're probably familiar with Ron Gant's work in his previous profession. Gant spent seven years of his big league career with the Atlanta Braves, wearing the number 5. Good Day welcomes number 5 to FOX 5!

You probably know Ron Gant the ball player. You may be familiar with Ron Gant the baseball analyst. The people who worked with him say they couldn't be more excited about the fact that their former teammate has now joined the Good Day Atlanta team.

"Ron was one of these guys where right off the bat you knew he wasn't your typical ex-athlete trying to get in front of a microphone or camera. Very intelligent, very well-rounded, very well spoken," said Jerome Jurenovich of FOX Sports South.

"It's a great opportunity and I think Ron has done a great job with the Braves, with major league baseball and now he's taking another step, even further," said former Braves 2B Mark Lemke.

For a long time ball player, the early morning hours will be an adjustment.

"I said Ron, I know you. You're used to going to bed at 3:30. What are you going to be doing getting up at 3:30, and he said he's loading up on the five hour energy," said Jurenovich.

That should be his toughest transition. This is the same guy who made it the big leagues as a second baseman before going back to the minor leagues and totally reinventing himself as an all-star outfielder with a hilite-filled 16-year career.

"I don't think there was a guy that got his uniform dirtier than Ron Gant, hopefully this uniform he doesn't get dirty. But when he wore his baseball uniform and he came off the field, you know he was involved in that game," said Lemke.

His former teammate has a message for his new teammates, and the Good Day Atlanta viewers.

"There's nobody that gave a better effort than Ron Gant. Ron Gant played the game as hard as anybody and I'm sure he'll do the same for you guys," said Lemke.
