DETROIT -- Crews were working Tuesday to clean up an oil slick on the Detroit River.  It began outside a U.S. Steel plant in Ecorse and continued two miles south to Grosse Ile.

The plant has a wastewater treatment facility with outflow that goes into the river.  The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality says the plant was shut down on Monday.  It's believed 10 to 20 gallons of oil lubricant was released when the system was started back up.

In a statement to FOX 2, U.S. Steel says it's working to clean up the oil sheen and trying to figure out how it leaked into the river.
