Suffolk County Police arrested a Long Island woman for driving while intoxicated with three children in the vehicle Saturday night.

Police say 43-year-old Zona Taylor of Bellport was driving a 2005 Dodge Neon westbound on Montauk Highway near the corner of North Prospect Avenue in Patchogue when she got into and accident with another car that was also traveling westbound.

Taylor left the scene and was followed by a witness who called police.

Officers caught up with Taylor and said she was trying to leave her 8-year-old child and two grandchildren, ages 4 and 6, after the vehicle became disabled.

Police say an adult passenger and the three children in her car were injured and one passenger from the other vehicle was injured in the crash.

All victims were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.

Police arrested Taylor for DWI, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra's Law), Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injury and three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

She was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday. The children were released to the custody of a family member.
