Former Buford High player remembered at homecoming

Posted: Updated:
BUFORD, Ga. -

Students and fans will remember the life of a former football player at Buford High School's homecoming game on Friday.

Devin Durden, 21, was killed two weeks ago in a car accident.  The former Buford High and Air Force Academy player was visiting home when he was involved in the accident on September 26.

Durden's father, Gene, is a well-known girls' basketball coach at Buford High.

The Buford High community has been beset by tragedy this year. Adam Smith, a student at the school, passed away after collapsing following a basketball practice in September. In January, 30-year-old coach Ryan Daniel died after collapsing during a pick-up basketball game .

Jersey numbers for Smith and Devin Durden were placed on the football field for Friday's game. Devin's sister, Danielle, was on the homecoming court.
