MYFOXNY.COM -

There is a lot of excitement in the medical community concerning a new trial that is now underway that will use stem cells to help treat autism.

Researchers say this kind of treatment has shown some promise in other conditions, such as cerebral palsy, and they are hoping it will now help improve language and behavior in the children taking part in the trial.

The study will use children's own stem cells from umbilical cord blood banked by their parents.

Dr. Michael Chez, the director of pediatric neurology at Sutter Neuroscience Institute in Sacramento, California, is the study's lead investigator.
