Dionne Miller's 'Happenings at Halas' - October 19

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Jay Cutler is focused on winning. Monday night. Versus Detroit. And despite his 5-1 MNF record as Chicago Bears quarterback, he knows the big stage brings a huge spotlight. And just like the first two Bears prime time games, Cutler critics are waiting.

The latest national opinion offered about the Bears QB came from NFL veteran Phil Simms. He was asked this week which quarterback he'd take - Cutler or Detroit's Matthew Stafford. Simms said Cutler because - and he meant it as a compliment - Cutler is mean.

"He's an angry guy. And I think angry is a big part of being quarterback in the NFL," Simms said.

Cutler responded Thursday, saying you do have to have an edge to play quarterback in the NFL. But that's not what he took from it.

"Everyone has an opinion...that's what they are paid to do...but at the end of the day they are opinions, not facts," he said.

Brandon Marshall backed him up saying, "Jay is an easy target." Maybe he is. But honestly, can't we focus on the things that really matter to the Bears future - immediate future - winning.

Cutler's attitude isn't determining the outcome of a game at this point. And he's always been this way. In fact, I'm told he's gotten better with the media. Can't we just move on? It was clear Cutler was.

"I'm not going to get into this. It's not going to happen, so any other questions about Detroit?"

There weren't.

We did have some for Marshall who tried very hard not to offer bulletin board material when asked about the QB-WR duo of Stafford and Calvin Johnson. He held his tongue, other than to say he and Cutler were doing that first. And it's scary to think where they would be if they hadn't been separated for three seasons.

He did say he's looking forward to reading what the papers say about Cutler and the Bears in the short term, after this season. I hope positive things fill the paper on Tuesday morning. Let's just start there.

Lovie Smith addressed the media inside Thursday. We were all thankful. It was windy, spitting rain and cold. Lovie said, "Good Chicago weather, just in time for a dome team". Ha! He was kidding, but there are more than a few Bears fans who hope that gives them just one more advantage.
