DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -- A suburban Detroit school district is holding a running event and launching a scholarship in memory of an employee fatally beaten with a baseball bat in an attack that also left his wife and teenage son injured.

Dearborn Public Schools is holding the Robert Cipriano Memorial Cross Country Meet Friday with more than 500 elementary and middle school students participating. The district also will announce details of a $500 scholarship in his name.

Cipriano's son Tucker Cipriano and a friend have been charged with murder and attempted murder in the April attack that left the elder Cipriano dead in the family's Farmington Hills home. His wife Rose and their 17-year-old son Sal were injured.
