BETHESDA, Md. -
Maryland state regulators are investigating an incident that occurred Monday at the Bethesda-Lynbrook daycare center.
Four youngsters, ages two and three, wandered away from a playground area.
Wendy Rhein is the mother of one of them. She has taken little Sammy out of the facility. The center is part of a chain run by the Montgomery Child Care Association, which has released a statement saying it regrets what occurred and has taken immediate and decisive action, which includes firing the teachers involved.
Rhein says she was in shock when she arrived around 4:45 p.m. Monday to pick up her son and found he was across the street with three other toddlers. She says a man out walking his dog was yelling out, "Lynbrook, Lynbrook, you've lost your kids."
Other parents say the daycare is a fine facility and they think what happened was a freak accident.
Rhein says they owe parents answers about what protocol is when children get lost.
