Flamin' Hot Cheetos next to be banned in schools?

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Some school districts in California and New Mexico are considering a ban on a product they say is addictive and hazardous to your health.

The product? Flamin' Hot Cheetos.

School officials say the spicy corn puff contains no nutritional value, according to a blog post on ABC News. One teacher even sent a letter home with students saying Flamin' Hot Cheetos lead to more germs with other students and causes dirty red fingerprints everywhere that create a mess for janitors.

One school district in Illinois has already banned the snack. Officials say they used to sell 150,000 bags each year.

One ounce of the Frito Lay snack contains 160 calories, 17 percent of the suggested daily serving of fat and eight percent of saturated fat and 10 percent of sodium. An entire bag contains 26 grams of fat.

One newspaper report called the snack an addictive 'hyper-palatable' food. It's salty, sweet and fatty and can create a brain response similar to those seen in people who are addicted to illegal substances.
