Just weeks after walking out of a district community meeting that disintegrated into a shouting match Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has canceled an upcoming meeting.
According to the mayor's Senior Publicist Christopher Kopicko "the community meeting will be rescheduled due to a scheduling conflict."
The meeting scheduled for Oct 18 at Greater Apostolic Faith Temple on W. Fort Street was supposed to be the seventh in a series of district community meetings held in accordance with the 2012 Detroit City Charter.
But recent meetings have turned into vocal protests over city cuts, including those imposed on police officers. On September 28 FOX 2 spoke with Officer Walter Higgins who said, "This is the only venue the police officers have an avenue to speak to the mayor. And they are very upset," Higgins said.
But Bing and his staff were not in the mood for the outbursts that had plagued previous meetings and Bing ended the event early after the crowd refused to settle down.
