It was a special day recently for a group of kids overcoming some challenges. They were given the "star" treatment, thanks to GiGi's Playhouse and Disney on Ice!
Ice skating is an activity that makes us all feel like children, and the activity recently brought joy to a special group of kids.
They're part of GiGi's Playhouse, an awareness and education center for children with Down Syndrome. The trip to Phillips Arena was just part of what the center strives to provide: a therapeutic activity with a little fun on the side.
The instructors keeping them on their feet were the stars of Disney on Ice.
"They were actually picking it up really, really, quick. It actually impressed me," said Jackson Stevens of Disney on Ice.
Adrienne Mulligan of Gigi's Playhouse says the event allows the kids to feel like they were given a chance to be a star for the day.
"It's really a big treat. It's really a big reward for them for all the things that they try to do," said Mulligan.
The treat was just the beginning. This cast and crew had a few tricks up their sleeve, and they called on their famous friend to pay a visit – Mickey Mouse!
After taking pictures and giving high fives to the kids, Mickey had to get ready for the night's show. The confidence these stars on ice left the kids will forever by remembered.

All of us overeat at some point. Enjoying a second bowl of ice cream or hitting that all-you-can-eat buffet a few too many times. It happens. But, for thousands of Georgian's, overeating is a real problem.
