PHILADELPHIA -

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick answered a question he refused to answer earlier this week about owning a dog.

On Thursday, Vick announced that he does own a dog.

The quarterback released a statement, saying "as a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals."

The question first was asked after a picture Tweeted by the Eagles quarterback showed a box of Milk-Bones in the upper right corner.

Vick spent time in federal prison for running a dog-fighting ring, plus three years on probation, during which he was prohibited from owning a dog. Since that probation ended earlier this year, there is nothing illegal about Vick owning a dog.
