Posted: Updated:

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets says a Brooklyn company is recalling herring fillets because they may be contaminated by listeria.

The Four Seasons Dairy Inc., is recalling herring "Fillet Atlantic Recipe in Oil." No illnesses have been reported yet.

The product, sold in the New York City area, was packaged in a 1-pound/500g, clear plastic tub with a white lid. A label on the bottom shows an expiration date of 12/11/12.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail, or elderly people and others with weak immune systems. Healthy people may suffer temporary high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
