Expert: Start small when tackling DIY Pinterest projects

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

It's no secret that internet users have fallen in love with Pinterest. In fact, people spend more time on Pinterest than Facebook. But before you go "pinning" every do it yourself project, here are some tips from an expert!

FOX 5 reporter Tacoma Perry considers herself a Pinterest addict. She started a project in July to make a bench from recycled pallets, which she obtained for free. It was a project she thought she could do herself. It's gone through various stages but it hasn't been completed.

That's where Anna White woman comes in. You may not know her face, but chances are you've pinned her projects.

"I especially love about Pinterest is that it's so full of other women, just like me, who want to make something," said White.

White's do-it-yourself blog gets more than 3 million page views a month. The Alaskan mom, along with her husband, built their entire home from the ground up. She says never be intimidated by a do it yourself project.

"If you can use a hand mixer to beat eggs, I believe you can build furniture," said White.

She proved it by agreeing to step in and rescue Perry from her Pinterest patio project. Her advice is to start small because it builds your confidence. When it comes to any project, White says invest in the right tools, they'll make the job much easier.

She says do it yourself doesn't mean do it all by yourself. Thanks to Perry's friend Jill, who sewed all of her cushions and her new friend Ana who made me believe Perry could build anything, her Pinterest pin is now a reality.

If you would like more information on Ana White, you can visit her website by clicking here! She has also written a book, The Handbuilt Home, and she will be at the Home Depot at 1032 Research Drive in Atlanta from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to sign her book, which you can get for free with any $20 purchase.

For decades, Atlantans have woken up to Tom Sullivan on their radios.  But you might not know that he's also somewhat of an expert eBay seller, and he's got quite a story to tell.

They say the third time's a charm, and that's certainly the case for Candice Glover.  A third try on American Idol was just what she needed, and on Thursday night she was crowned the season 12 champ.
