Dustin Mitcham
Clarksburg High School
CLARKSBURG, Md. -
It was quick thinking by a Montgomery County high school student that helped avert a possible tragedy last Friday morning.
Clarksburg High School senior Dustin Mitcham was one of four students on the school bus around 6:40 a.m. when the bus driver had some kind of medical emergency and passed out.
Mitcham tells FOX 5 he rushed to the front of the bus, which was still moving, as it was traveling down Prices Distillery Road. He says the driver was slumped over and going in and out of consciousness.
Mitcham used the school bus radio to notify the school system of the problem. Another student dialed 911. Help came fast.
Mitcham is a modest, unassuming young man, who has a part-time job at a local grocery store. He didn't seem comfortable with being called a hero.
His parents are proud and expressed concern about the health of the bus driver.
They say school officials, citing privacy rules, did not disclose any information about his condition.
