Lawyer For Bride's Family Speaks Out In Wedding Brawl

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

"They kind of walked right into bedlam here."

That description comes from the attorney representing the family of one of the brides caught up in the videotaped melee fiasco.

The tape, which has now been seen over 800,000 times on the Internet, shows two wedding parties battling it out at the Society Hill Sheraton early Sunday morning.

Now, the attorney for one of the brides' families is weighing in on the melee that left an uncle dead from a heart attack and three under arrest.

"It  looks like the police mistook the people who were involved in our wedding party for the individuals who actually started the problem," attorney Fortunato Perri Jr. told FOX 29.

Police commissioner Charles Ramsey said, "It's really an embarrassment to both of those families."

Ramsey has reviewed the brawl caught on tape by 15-year-old hotel guest Max Schultz about 15 to 20 times. He watched his officers in action. He's convinced police officers who raced to the scene used the right amount of force to get the brawl under control.

"I was very proud of the officers who responded. They used remarkable restraint . It was a very chaotic scene," Ramsey said.

"Most of the individuals who were involved in the melee, who started the incident, left the scene," Perri said.

On Tuesday, police were set to charge another wedding guest in the melee. That man is expected to surrender to face aggravated assault and riot charges.

Perri represents 26-year-old Matthew Sofka, the brother of one of the grooms, who already faces aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and riot counts.

"His father is a former police officer," Perri explained. "I think the evidence will show he was not involved in any type of assaultive conduct on police."

Perri also represents the family of the bride who's uncle died from a heart attack outside the hotel. Nicole Sannuti has not spoken publicly about the incident because her family is preparing for Vincent Sannuti's funeral.

"This was a terrible tragedy. The family is trying to put the pieces back together here," Perri added.

"These are adults, these aren't children that are out here doing this sort of thing," Ramsey said. "This isn't a prom, this was a wedding."
