Posted: Updated:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) -

Detroit's Historic Places of Worship is a new book that profiles 37 architecturally and historically significant houses of worship, focusing on Detroit's most prolific era of church building from 1850-1930.

The places of worship represent eight denominations and nearly 150 years of history. Entries begin with each building's founding congregation and trace developments and changes to the present day.

Watch the video to hear from authors Marla O. Collum and Barbara E. Krueger.

They also invite you to A Celebration of Books, where the book will be released along with The Buildings of Detroit: A History.

The event is Wednesday, October 10, 2012. Tours will be available of the historic Cathedral Church of St. Paul, AVI Fresh will cater a strolling themed supper, and books will be signed and sold.
