GROSSE POINTE, Mich. -- There was a big soccer game Monday night in Grosse Pointe about honoring our troops, in particular those injured in battle. Grosse Pointe South and Grosse Pointe North's varsity boys soccer teams played in their first annual Wounded Warriors game.
Each player wore the name of a veteran in the Wounded Warrior Project on their jersey and some even played for a family member.
"My dad was actually in the Army and he retired in February. And when he was overseas one time, he actually got injured, and now he's part of the Wounded Warrior Project," said Joseph Garvin with Grosse Pointe North.
Darrell Scott is the U.S. Army Wounded Warrior advocate for the State of Michigan. His initial impression of the event was one of great joy.
"I was real happy because we got to get the word out that we are out here for our (soldiers) and (vets)," he said. "That will let the neighborhood and the people know that if a solider or a vet got hurt in combat... we are here to assist them."
The result of the game was very insignificant. However, why this game was played was very substantial.
