WASHINGTON -

A Maryland man driving down the road heard a strange noise coming from his car engine and pulled over in a Beltsville parking lot and discovered a kitten hiding under the hood.

Prince George's County firefighters worked 45 minutes and eventually rescued the three-week-old kitten.

A firefighter found a friend who will adopt the kitten.

Some of the rescuers have suggested naming the female Columbo because Monday was Columbus Day.
