Money Monday: Better Business Bureau

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (MyFoxDetroit) -

October is Cyber Security Month and we're talking all things scamming on the Internet. Melanie Duquesnal, President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau serving Eastern Michigan warns us your computer and personal information could be at risk.

Internet scammers are getting more creative and more crafty, which means more and more people are falling for the scams.

The latest one popping up is an email apparently from your friend, offering you a free gift such as an iPad.  The email then takes you to a secondary link, asks for your personal info, and will eventually send you an SMS text message that will add more fees onto your cell phone bill.

Duquesnal advises to hover over the email to check the exact email address of the sender.  Sometimes it may look like it's coming from a familiar sender, but majority of the time it's not.

Duquesnal also talks about a grant BBB just received, which will soon go towards investment scam education.
