The war in Afghanistan began its 12th year Sunday in a country that still remains deeply divided and dangerous.
U.S. troops invaded the country on October 7th 2001, more than a month after the Taliban led September 11th terrorist attacks.
All foreign troops are scheduled to leave Afghanistan by 2014, the same year the Afghan people are expected to vote for a new president.
More than 2000 U.S. troops have been killed since the beginning of the war.
