A tour bus carrying 57 passengers coming from Toronto en route to Brooklyn slid off Route 80 in Wayne, NJ into an embankment early Saturday morning.

A spokesperson from St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson said eight victims are still in critical condition as investigators are still trying to figure out how this accident happened.

Windows exploded and the frames left a crumpled mess leaving 23 people hurt.

This is the aftermath after a tour bus from Canada, carrying Seventh Day Adventists headed to an event in Brooklyn, overturned and then slid into a ditch as it was coming off an exit ramp on route 80 in Wayne.

"I could hear the glass cracking, cracking, when I look I saw, I said ‘oh my god' what is this?!!?  You know I was lying on the floor and someone was still on top of me so someone had to pull me up off the floor," said Leona Broones.

The driver, 51-year-old Neville Larmond of Toronto, was not seriously hurt. Larmond told investigators he had been cut off by another driver. Many of the 57 passengers had been sleeping when the accident happened around 7:30 this morning.

"I said push my leg up, so she pushed my leg up, and then I saw my purse and the carry-on bag on the floor, I took that up and my glasses went flying somewhere, I don't know where they are," said Norma Cadogan.

Passengers who were unhurt were put on another bus and continued their journey but eight remain in critical condition. Four other people were taken to St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital in fair condition.

Six people, including two children, were taken to Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pequannock with minor injuries while other two adults were taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

Fox 5 contacted the Toronto-based bus company but has not heard back yet. Meantime passengers are just thankful that no one was killed.

"I had just gotten up from sleeping so; you know you just felt the commotion, then all of the sudden you knew the bus had turned over. Because of the position, I just grabbed onto the seat ahead of me and she was beside me, you know my first reaction was ‘oh my god,' but it was a really scary experience," said Donna Broones.

So far the driver has not been charged with a crime or issued a summons. As for the eight victims in critical condition, investigators say they are expected to survive.
