Philadelphia Police are currently involved in an investigation into the rampant theft of scooters and motorcycles from areas in the South and Central Police Divisions.

39 scooters and 14 motorcycles have been stolen from those divisions between July 1 and September 24.

Police have recovered 13 scooters, 10 of which were located in Camden.  Investigators suspect that several groups of unknown men from Camden are involved in the thefts of scooters.  These suspects seem to use large vans or box trucks to transport the scooters back across the Delaware for sale.

The majority of thefts occur in the overnight hours.

Police have released surveillance video of one such incident that occurred ion August 12 at 3:30am on the 100 block of church Street.  You can clearly see the suspects cut the lock on the scooter and load it into a white van.

If you have any information on these crimes, you are urged to call 911.
