Microsoft is finalist for St. Elizabeths site - DC Breaking Local News Weather Sports FOX 5 WTTG

Microsoft is a contender to build a new facility in economically disadvantaged Southeast Washington.
 
The Washington Post reports that Mayor Vincent Gray's administration has named Microsoft and two other technology companies as preferred candidates to open facilities on the east campus of St. Elizabeths Hospital. The other two companies are French lighting firm Citelum and Atlanta-based SmartBIM, an architectural marketing company. District of Columbia officials picked the three finalists from among 10 proposals.
 
Officials hope the east campus will become a technology hub and create jobs in one of the poorest parts of the city. It's across the street from where the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is building its new headquarters.
 
Microsoft has proposed building what it calls an Innovation Center, which would help emerging software companies.
