Police in Frederick, Maryland say they're dealing with a violent crime spike that includes the city's first murder of the year.
Early Sunday morning 36-year-old Lamont Ellis was found dead in an ally.
He had been shot multiple times.
Friends and family members gathered at a vigil last night.
While FOX 5 was working the story by conducting interviews at police head quarters, shots rang out nearby.Authorities say gunfire erupted during a large fight in downtown Frederick and one person suffered a serious cut or stab wound.
The fight occurred during the afternoon rush hour Monday near West South and Degrange streets and involved males and females. Lt. Clark Pennington, a Frederick County police spokesman, says the group scattered after the shots were fired.
Officers later stopped a car near the Fifth and Bentz streets for a traffic violation and found a passenger suffering from a cut or stab wound. The victim was flown to a hospital, where he was in serious but stable condition.
No arrests have been made.
