New laws take effect in Maryland

Posted: Updated:
ANNAPOLIS, Md -

Several new laws take effect in Maryland Monday.

Among them new regulations for car seats - children under 8 years old will need a safety seat until they are 4-feet 9-inches or taller.

Other laws cut costs for patients undergoing oral chemotherapy and grant prisoners relief from paying child support while behind bars.

Also, Maryland residents will now be able to compete for cash prizes in online fantasy competitions, including sports leagues.
