WASHINGTON -
An employee of a gourmet sandwich shop in Northwest D.C. was pistol-whipped and beaten in a robbery Wednesday night.
The attack occurred just after 8 p.m. inside the Pret A Manger sandwich shop on L and 19th Streets.
Authorities say three men went into the shop with the intent to rob the place.
During the robbery, one of the suspects wearing a mask and armed with a gun pistol-whipped one of the employees and the weapon went off.
The employee was not shot, but was sent to the hospital.
The suspects fled the scene after the robbery.
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier says all three men were wearing white button-down dress shirts with burgundy stripes. All three were also wearing dark pants and black shoes.
