Peach Pass confusion leads to bill in the mail

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Think you finally have those HOT lanes figured out?  An Atlanta man tells the FOX 5 I-Team he did too—until he got a bill in the mail.

David Eads says some confusion over the rules got him fined again and again.  He drives a Chevy Volt, which runs largely on electrical battery power.  That means he can ride in the HOT lanes for free.

Eads says his license plate registered him with the state as having an alternative fuel car, but he couldn't find anywhere on the Peach Pass website where he had to register to use the HOT lanes.  He found out differently when he got an $80 bill in the mail after he apparently cruised through the lanes three times without a pass.  That's when he realized there was a problem.

The folks at Peach Pass say Eads was right, and the website was confusing.  They thank him for bringing it to their attention, and they've now fixed the site so it's clear for others.

For decades, Atlantans have woken up to Tom Sullivan on their radios.  But you might not know that he's also somewhat of an expert eBay seller, and he's got quite a story to tell.
