GAITHERSBURG, Md. -
Police say at least a couple of fights broke out across the street from Watkins Mill High School after the school's football game.
Authorities say fans began to scatter and one girl running in the street near the school was hit by a police cruiser responding to the scene on Apple Ridge Road in Gaithersburg. The girl was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Watkins Mill High School Principal Scott Murphy confirms the girl was a 10th grade student.
Montgomery County Police say pepper spray was deployed by officers in order to gain some sort of control of the situation.
Police say they received a call about the fight at around 9:30 p.m.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident as well as what sparked the fights.
Watkins Mill hosted Clarksburg in Friday night's football game.
