BURKE, Va. -
Officials say a package containing human remains has been found on VRE train tracks near Burke, Va.
Virginia Railway Express officials say the remains were found on tracks on Manassas Park at around 6 p.m. Wednesday. The area was shut down and four VRE trains were stopped.
Crime scene investigators inspected the remains that was wrapped in what appeared to be a plastic bag. Police did not reveal much about the remains except that it is not a human head.
About 1,700 riders were stranded for hours and VRE urged some riders on stopped trains to have someone pick them up. Buses were also brought to transport train riders.
VRE said it should know by around 4 a.m. the status of the Thursday's schedule.
