Candidate Bio: Robert Dold - 10th District

Posted: Updated:

Congressman Robert Dold is the U.S. representative for Illinois' 10th congressional district, and has served since January of 2011.

The Republican is a small business owner, who favors conservative fiscal policies and has a moderate stance on social issues.

The third generation North Shore native promises to be a bipartisan voice in the House, with a special focus on creating jobs, preserving the environment, homeland security and human rights.

He is running against Democrat Bob Schneider, to retain his seat in Congress.

Illinois' 10th district covers Chicago's northeast suburbs in parts of Cook County and Lake County, including Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Grayslake, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Mundelein, North Chicago, Northbrook, Prospect Heights, Vernon Hills, Waukegan, Wheeling, and Zion.

On The Issues

Economy and Jobs - Finding ways to empower small businesses to create jobs is my top priority in Congress. Whether that is reducing regulatory burdens, scaling back red tape or establishing more certainty in the marketplace- one thing we can all agree on in Washington is that we must strengthen the economy. This year I have supported several bills that will help to create an environment in which small businesses can thrive and begin to put the 10th District of Illinois back to work. I have also put in place a "Jobs Task Force" in the district that meets regularly to find ways to help the job creators in our local communities. Whether I'm back in the district hosting a job fair or in Washington fighting for small businesses, I want to make sure your voice is heard and that we are taking the necessary steps to create jobs. Education - It is critical that we prepare our students for the Jobs of the 21st Century. I started an Education Advisory Committee in the 10th District so that I can work directly with local education leaders on the best ways to give our children the education they need to excel. Local communities are better suited to know what is best for their students than do federal bureaucrats. That is why I favor education policy that empowers classroom educators, district administrators, school boards and parents with the flexibility to educate our students. Read more...

Environment - Protecting the environment is a top priority of mine in Congress. Over the years, many have abused the world we live in and that is why I support actions to clean up our environment, conservation programs, and initiatives that educate the public on the importance of keeping the world we live in clean. I am also a supporter of an "all of the above" energy approach which would empower our nation to utilize renewable energy to help power the country. Read more...

Healthcare - As a small business owner I understand firsthand how difficult it can be to provide quality health care to employers. Every person I have employed depends on health care coverage for their family. That is why health care reform is personal for me. There is no doubt that rising health care costs have prevented families from seeking the care they need. I believe that Washington can take the steps necessary to enact sound legislation that truly drives down costs and increases access to quality care, without creating a maze of new bureaucracy that stands between you and your doctor. Read more...

Human Rights - Throughout the world there are unspeakable atrocities and human right violations, and advocating in Congress for those without a voice is a responsibility I take very seriously. I believe that the United States is a symbol of freedom that the world strives to achieve. All too often, people throughout the world are oppressed because of their beliefs, their religion, their gender or their ethnicity. It is our responsibility to speak up for those who cannot. Read more...

Israel - I believe an unshakably strong US-Israel relationship is essential as we move forward together to confront the many challenges facing our two nations. In Congress, I am committed to stepping forward as a lead voice for continuing this critical relationship, with our strongest ally in the Middle East That is why I led a recent 10th District constituent mission to Israel which focused on regional security, as well as the economic and humanitarian relationship between the U.S. and Israel. This was my second visit to Israel in the past 14 months. I know how important it is that we in Congress work in a bipartisan manner to strengthen this relationship. Read more...

Taxes and Spending - I believe that working together in a bipartisan fashion is the only we will make meaningful reforms that put our nation on a path towards long-term economic growth and stability. Whether it is closing tax loopholes, eliminating subsidies, reforming our antiquated tax code, or reining in spending - I believe that Washington must take action to get our nation back on track. Read more...
