DETROIT (MyFox Detroit) -

A Wayne County jury begins to hear evidence in the first degree murder trial of a Detroit father accused of killing his 2-year-old daughter.

32-year old D'Andre Lane is charged in the death of Bianca Jones, even though her body has never been found.

Lane told police he was carjacked at gunpoint on Detroit's east side in December and said his daughter was in the back seat at the time. The car was recovered a short time later, but Bianca was not in the vehicle. Police believe Lane made up the story and is responsible for his daughter's death.

Lane's attorney, Terry L. Johnson says "there's no body, there's no evidence, unfortunately they've thrown my client to the wolves." Johnson adds, prosecutors have based their case on the argument that he (Lane) spanked her.

Lane is currently being held without bond but Johnson says he's hoping to get out of jail to help find Bianca. "We firmly believe she's alive, because there's been no proof to this point that she's dead,"  Johnson said.

Trial is expected to last two weeks. Stay with FOX 2 and myFOXDetroit.com for continuing coverage.
