Dulles officers find almost 13 lbs cocaine in cream, honey jars (CBP)
DULLES, Va. -
Customs officers stopped two couriers after they discovered cocaine hidden in jars of honey and cream Saturday at Washington Dulles International Airport.
The two men arrived on flights from Guatemala and El Salvador when their packages were sent through a routine inspection.
Officers detected the cocaine concealed inside a false inner lining of the plastic jars. The parcels were destined for addresses in Maryland.
After extensive interviews authorities released the men to return to their native Guatemala. Each has been barred from returning to the U.S. for a minimum of five years.
The combined weight of the jars and cocaine measured about 12 pounds, 10 ounces.
From October 2011 through September 2012, Customs and Border Protection officers at Washington Dulles intercepted a little more than 50 pounds of cocaine in seven seizures.
