Suspect named in murder of Capitol Heights woman - DC Breaking Local News Weather Sports FOX 5 WTTG

Prince George's County police have identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman in Capitol Heights.

Police are looking for 33-year-old Michael Stewart of Upper Marlboro. Police believe he shot and killed his former girlfriend, 25-year-old Brittany McKinley, after fighting with her at the strip club where she worked.

McKinley was found dead inside a vehicle shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday. Another woman was treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to the hand.

Police say Stewart confronted McKinley at Irving's Night Club in Capitol Heights, where she worked. He was thrown out by security, and police say he went to her home and waited for her. When the women arrived, police say Stewart opened the door and shot them.

Neighbors say they heard three gunshots at the corner of Drum Ave. and Heath Street shortly after 6:00 a.m., Sunday. Prince George's County police officers responded to the scene, but the victims had driven away in their white SUV.

Police say the wounded victim drove about five miles from the scene of the shooting, winding up in the parking lot of the IHOP restaurant on Central Avenue near the Capital Beltway. Police were called to that scene.

"[Officers] responded to that location, and found two adult females suffering from gunshot wounds," explained P.G. Police Dept. Cpl. Larry Johnson. "One was transported to a local hospital. The other was pronounced dead on [the] scene."

Neighbors say the woman had a young son, and she was a good mother to him.

Darlene Carroll, who lives several houses away from McKinley called the shooting "senseless." Carroll, shaking her head, also said, "Her son didn't even get a chance to say goodbye, you know. And family...is going to have to explain that to him. How do you explain that to a child?"
