New app gives info to DC rape victims in college

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

A new mobile application is aimed at making it easier for college students in the District of Columbia to report allegations of sexual assault.

Mayor Vincent Gray, university administrators and others on Friday unveiled U ASK DC, which features a mobile app and a website that compiles campus and community resources.

Gray told The Associated Press that the effort was an innovative use of social media and the first of its kind.

Students on D.C. college campuses can download the app and get contact information for law enforcement and medical professionals, sexual assault support services and other information in a single location.

The Mayor's Office of Victim Services partnered with Men Can Stop Rape, a men's violence prevention group, to develop the app.
