Virginia State Police are investigating the death of a widower of a Culpeper woman who was fatally shot by a police officer in February.

Police say 62-year-old Gary Cook was found dead Tuesday in the 1000 block of Friendship Way at around 10:29 a.m. by a maintenance crew conducting routine maintenance service at the complex.

Virginia State Police say it does not appear foul play was a factor in Cook's death.

Cook's remains will be transported to the Chief Medical Examiner's office in Manassas for an autopsy.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Cook's wife, Patricia, was shot to death in her vehicle on February 9. Police have said 32-year-old Officer Daniel Harmon-Wright was responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a church parking lot when he fatally shot the 54-year-old woman.

Harmon-Wright was charged with murder and gun charges in her shooting death in May.

The 32-year-old Harmon-Wright is an Iraq war veteran. He is a one-time Marine who grew up in Vienna, Va.

Gary Cook filed a civil lawsuit against Harmon-Wright in May seeking more than $5 million in damages.
